The holidays are different this year, there’s no doubt about it. We’ve never before seen a Christmas like this (and hopefully will never again). But even though we may be celebrating December 25th in our homes with our nearest and dearest, that doesn’t mean we can’t still look festively fashionable for the holidays. I now present to you: D-RAVEL’s At-Home Christmas Style Guide.
Dearest D-RAVEL Traveler,
Whether you prefer comfy clothes and lounging about the house or still like to dress up whenever the chance arises, this guide has got you covered. From cozy styles to current trends, read on to discover how to bring your best style game this year, even if it’s just to wear to your family room.
Cozy Christmas
If you’re drawn to this category, you most likely love sticking to loungewear when you’re home. I mean, who doesn’t? So if you want to be comfy and casual, while still adding a wintry touch to your present-opening ensemble, try a few of these cozy combinations this Christmas.
If the sweat set craze has gone to your head (and most definitely your wardrobe), then welcome to the club. An at-home Christmas definitely calls for comfort, and these icy-blue MadLove USA sweats are here to add a frosty touch. Pair the crewneck and matching sweatpants for a look that will leave you comfortable and stylish all day long.
Nothing says Christmas like a snowy day, so why not dress the part? You can’t go wrong with a white-on-white set, especially when it consists of a fuzzy cardigan to keep you warm by the fire. Pair it with some white joggers or sweatpants, throw on your cozy socks and settle in for a comfy Christmas.
I dub this look “candy cane casual.” But really, what better combo for a festive look (and non-clashing, sorry red and green) than red and white? Anything with a fuzzy texture is a a definite yes in my holiday style book, so this red Urban Outfitters sweater is the perfect way to add some excitement to a casual Christmas outfit. Shop a similar style here! Add your trusty white joggers, some Christmas socks (because you know you want to) and relax the day away.
Classic Christmas
If you’re a sucker for the holiday classics, whether it be Home Alone on a snowy night, Bing Crosby crooning on the radio or your staple red and green hues, then this is the segment for you.
Want an easy way to look festive without looking cheesy? I’ve found that a red and black plaid jacket, such as this gem from Portobello Road, does just the trick. Shop a similar style here! I’ve layered this oversized flannel jacket with a black turtleneck and faux leather leggings to add some contrasting texture. Finish this look with a pair of platform Chelsea boots and accentuate your waist with a belt for a classic outfit.
You know “candy cane casual,” but this is her older sister, “candy cane chic.” Red and white comes to the rescue again with our favorite red, fuzzy sweater paired with a wide-legged white pant. Keep the color scheme going with all-white boots, such as this pair from Madden Girl, to complete your festive look.
If you’re not a fan of fire-engine red but still want to incorporate the classic Christmas colors, I would suggest slipping into a wine shade. This tone is muted enough to not draw so much attention, but still make a statement. Create a sophisticated look with a mulled wine midi skirt, white turtleneck and those same white booties. Don’t forget to accessorize with some chunky gold jewelry and a purse!
Current Christmas
If trends rule your closet and you’ve been dying for a reason to dress up, then you’re in my favorite category… current Christmas! These outfits play off of a darker color scheme that marry comfort and class. Scroll to see how I would wear current trends this Christmas.
When you don’t have a turtleneck bodycon dress, you improvise. Layer a cropped, sleeveless turtleneck under a black dress to form a new look! Shop an alternate style here. I threw on my oversized blazer with a pair of knee-high boots, both from Nasty Gal. Style a similar blazer here! Accessorize with some silver jewelry, like a thick chain necklace and small silver hoops, to complete your look.
Faux fur is always a staple for the wintertime, so including it in this category was a must. I chose a statement slit midi skirt with an eye-catching zebra print to pair with my black turtleneck. Shop a similar skirt here! Warming up the look was my faux fur biker jacket, which I then accessorized with that same pair of chunky booties. If you’re like me and love to wear black, then this look is a holiday hit for you!
Oversized leather jackets are all we see on our Pinterest feeds, so naturally they made their way onto our style guide. This leather blazer from Zara adds a sleek touch to this wide-leg trousers and cropped turtleneck ensemble. Try a similar pant here. Finishing off with silver accents and Chelsea booties, we draw a close on our at-home holiday style guide!
If there’s anything we’ve learned this year, it’s that we should jump at any opportunity to dress up. Or maybe you don’t need an opportunity at all, who says your living room isn’t a runway? So even if you’re home for the holidays this year, you can still rock that cute outfit – whether it be cozy, classic or current!
Happy holidays from D-RAVEL, and a happiest new year.
